Greeting from Cochabamba! PDF Print E-mail

Good afternoon from a cloudy, damp Cochabamba:

What's a Saturday like in our house? This morning started at about 5:30 for me: devotions (finishing up the fascinating prophetic book of Zechariah), answering a few email letters and drinking a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. At 7:45 Lori and I along with our neighbor, the Carachipampa Christians School Elementary Principal went to an outdoor market for veggies, fruit and dairy products.

To the bank machine to draw out money given by businessmen from Atlanta, Georgia to help construction on a local church. (I'll go to their church Sunday evening to present $800 for doors, windows and brick). A quick breakfast before having a dozen Jr. High boys from my Discipleship Team descend on the house along with a few fathers. We are off for a fun day of Paint Ball!!! Chase just celebrated his 16th birthday so he invited 5 of his friends to come along. No Paint ball! The guns were locked in a house of a guy who was in town partying (it's Carnaval weekend here). Off to try to find a Go-Kart place -- closed! OK, at least the bowling alley is open. After 2 games, I take some of the boys for pizza. Chase takes his buddies for lunch. Then home for an afternoon of water balloon games that turn into a major war! At 3 PM I rush to pick up 140 treats for our Sunday Fellowship Time. The last guys leave at 5 PM after basketball. Chase will go to school for basketball tonight from 6:30 to 9.

During our time playing, Lori has made copies of tomorrow's bulletin for me and gone to a women's salad luncheon - back at 5 PM. 15 women enjoyed a variety of salads and talk - and talk - and ...... Meanwhile Megan has been studying all day and playing the piano. She's worked on English, Socials and Math projects.

Sound like a Saturday at your house? We're not much different than you!

A few exciting items for prayer:

  1. This past Monday and Tuesday, I was able to go on a father-son trip into the Bolivian lowlands. We did a little fishing and I was able to teach for about a half hour at a local church. I dreamed of our University and Young Professionals coming and experiencing missions. This will happen. Pray for the timing. The Bolivian lowlands are flooded. As we floated down swollen rivers in dugout canoes, we past cows standing in water with only their heads showing. The CIC has helped 2 teams assisting with flooding victims.
  2. Friday afternoon 3 of us made an exploratory presentation to folks we may possibly partner with as we build a church. We hope to build and have our first service in a 500 seat church in December! Tuesday afternoon I will present the same information to a Board directing the Foundation. This is exciting, but we enter this asking the Lord to slam shut doors we should not go through. If the doors remain open -- we boldly charge ahead.
  3. Sunday afternoon we'll have a Baptismal Service. We pray these being baptized will realize the important step of faith they're taking as they proclaim their faith in Jesus Christ. We want this to cement their decision and begin a brave new walk of faith.
  4. On Thursday a team of high school students from Canada come for a week. We pray they are exposed to different mission organizations and different ministries. We want them to see that God uses all abilities and talents in His work.
  5. Saturday morning will be an orientation to a Discipleship Program I'll be leading the church through every Wednesday night for about 3 months. Graduates will begin a one-on-one discipleship program that we hope will invigorate spiritual lives and bring new believers to the Lord Jesus Christ.
  6. The CIC will celebrate 6 years in March! We'll celebrate receiving our official status papers this Sunday. Over 250 people coming every Sunday has required many changes. Over 40 elementary students and over 40 high schoolers will be in Sunday School tomorrow.
  7. Every Sunday an article I write on the family will be read across Bolivia and in Spain. Letters for counseling come in all week requiring careful answers.

God has blessed our family as well. Both Devin & Sandi and Nick & Bethany will become parents this summer while we visit the US!! Is that exciting - or what???!!!

God is sooo good! With all our hearts we thank you for your support of our ministry!

All our love, Graham & Lori
