Remedial Discipline

No matter how well-prepared you are, no matter how faithfully you love and pray for your kids, no matter how thoroughly you understand the philosophy of discipline and discipling, there will be trying moments in your classroom. When you face those trying times, here’s what to do:

  • Cover the situation with prayer.
  • Keep your perspective clear by seeking God’s perspective. You are part of the pattern of love that God is weaving into the lives of the children you teach.
  • Respond—don’t react.
  • Be empathetic.
  • Don’t take it personally.
  • Define the situation before it becomes a confrontation.
  • Treat the misbehaving child with respect.
  • Make sure that the child understands why his or her behavior was unacceptable.
  • Make sure the child understands the consequences of his or her behavior.
  • Immediately redirect the child to a new activity.

Why FUN Rules*

  • Fun and faith go hand in hand. Here’s why fun is key to a children’s ministry that rules.
  • We want kids to enjoy, not endure, their childhood experience.
  • Kids are more likely to retain biblical truths when they learn them through discovery and fun.
  • Fun is how God wired children.
  • Fun keeps life simple, exciting, and uncomplicated. Life brings complications soon enough.
  • We serve a creative, fun God.
  • Without fun, life can get too serious.
  • Fun put smiles on the faces of children and adults.
  • Fun is good for your soul. The Bible says laughter is like medicine to the soul.
  • Fun fosters spontaneity and the unexpected, making for a life full of variety.
  • Without fun, life gets boring and predictable.
