Creating a Safe Environment

KidVenture Ministries must be concerned for the safety of the children. At the same time, KidVenture Ministries must be concerned with the safety and reputation of its adult and teen volunteers. The following rules create a safe environment for all.

Staffing and Supervising

  • Two-Adult Rule

A minimum of two adults should be present in any room, except in the event of an emergency. This standard not only helps provide for a safe and loving classroom, it also gives volunteers more encouragement, creativity, and flexibility. Some classrooms may use one adult with one teen helper.

  • Open Doors

Doors should have clear glass windows that allow for an easy view of the classroom activities without interrupting the teaching process (especially with very young children). When it is necessary that only one adult teacher be in a classroom, the door of that room should remain slightly open if the door does not have a glass window.

  • Teacher/Student Ratios

Adequate staffing is necessary to provide optimal care. The recommended ratios are:

  • One caregiver for every three infants (birth – 12 months).
  • One caregiver for every four toddlers or preschoolers.
  • One caregiver for every 8 – 10 elementary-age children.

Procedures for Opening/Closing

Rooms are cleaned regularly. However, in keeping with our goals to have a safe and healthy environment for the children, we ask that you help us maintain the rooms each time they are used. Please put away supplies, vacuum floor and push in chairs if needed.

Parent Stickers

Any visiting parent who is not an Approved KidVenture Volunteer, but wants to stay with his/her child in the nursery or in a classroom must wear a Parent Sticker. They may not “interact” with other children, and they must be in the presence of other approved care providers.
