We wholeheartedly believe in the power and necessity of prayer. We cannot "Intersect Lives with Christ" unless prayer is central to all we do.....Read more
Incredible,
energizing, awesome and powerful are some of the expressions we felt regarding
the Sao Paulo District one day missionary conference held in a hotel beginning
at 9am on September 27th. One group traveled overnight
by bus to attend. Another left their church at 6:00am to participate in
the celebration. Video clips, worship, prayers of intercession,
brokenness for the lost, pictures, stories, mime, and tears mixed together in
the telling of what God had done through the lives of those serving around the
world. The vision, faith, and action in missions by the churches that
attended the conference are humbling and inspiring. Five key churches
with the support of the other 15 Brazilian Alliance churches are the secret to
this missionary outreach, currently supporting nine individuals (four families
with children and a single woman.) A soccer related ministry in southern
Asia, reaching Japanese descendants of Brazilians living in Japan,
partnering with the Alliance churches in Russia, and reaching the indigenous
peoples in the Amazon region make up the career missionaries sent by the Brazilian Alliance
church.
The
one day conference had a simultaneous children’s conference at the Airport
Church nearby. The youth had a pull-out session for a few hours to learn
about the persecuted church.
Brazilians
gave up their all so precious Saturday as over 350 participated in the
Conference. In spite of challenges in serving the food at meal and
snack time the “biggest complaints” were that the seminars were much too
short!
Is the
Brazilian Alliance satisfied to stop there? No! No! No! They sent
out short term groups this year to the Wai Wai people in the Amazon,
five professionals went to Nepal to help in a ministry to abused
children; a trip was made to Angola to see the work of the Alliance
there, and a medical trip to Indonesia. Three pastoral visit
trips were made to encourage the hearts of those who are serving in distant
lands. In 1885 A. B. Simpson sent the first 4 missionaries to Angola,
(colonized by Portugal—thus the similar language.) Today the Angolan
Alliance church is requesting a partnership with the Brazilian Alliance to
strengthen the church in Angola. Emphasis in teaching, theological training,
literacy program, special teams to minister in areas of health needs is some of
the short term goals. The first team of leaders will travel this November to
begin this active partnership.
In 2010 the
Brazilian Alliance is preparing to send one or more couples to Portugal
to begin a work to reach a nation with little evangelical witness. They
also look to support a short term soccer group going to Russia to
be the basis of outreach, coinciding with excitement of the World Cup 2010—all
in the vision of Pr. Yura from the church in Krasnodar. How can such a
small base of churches do this? Where will the resources come from?
How can this be done? Only by faith in a God who calls us to take great
steps of obedience, believing Him to provide for each need reflects the heart
and action of the Brazilian Alliance Church. How can we hold back?
Those who
attended found it hard to leave at 8:30 pm when the last block of worship time
began. Friends went over and hugged and kissed their good-byes to people
across the room as we continued in Praise to our Almighty Lord!
This is a
small picture of the reason we are here and serving in ministry with our
Brazilian brothers. We are involved in supporting the pastors, and
working on a team to plant a new church in the Taboao neighborhood of Sao
Paulo. Only a growing church can support such a passionate vision
for the World. Thank you for your sacrifice in supporting us
here—your love, prayers and gifts!

Update July 10, 2008
Sunday, 13 July 2008
Dear Partners in the Faith,
In our last update we shared how our time in Brazil will most likely be one year because of the closing of the Brazil field, primarily due to giving (and weakening dollar) not keeping up to the ministry opportunities around the world, and reaching out to peoples who have little or no opportunity to hear the message of Hope. Priorities must be made and new countries and peoples have been targeted to reach with THE MESSAGE of Eternal Life. As hard as it is to see an end to our time in Brazil—We are firmly confident of God’s Sovereignty and Love for us and our leaders.
